Varicose VeinsVaricose veins often thought of as a cosmetic problem are actually a sign of an underlying disorder of the circulatory system called venous Reflux. Reflux affects 70% of women and 40% of men by age 60. This results in the development of varicose veins in 33% of the women and 20% of the men in the United States. Traditionally varicose veins were treated with surgical ligation and stripping. Now at Advanced Vein Care we can treat them without major surgery! Dr. Grella uses a new, minimally invasive, office based procedure called Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) which offers immediate relief from varicose vein symptoms. This treatment gets you back to normal activity the very same day. Spider VeinsSpider Veins are one of the earliest signs of venous reflux. Over time reflux dilates and engorges once invisible veins manifesting as spider veins. Close evaluation by ultrasound often reveals larger abnormal deeper veins. Treatment involves dealing with the reflux first then eliminating the spider veins with sclerotherapy. Sclerotherapy sessions last about 30 minutes and Dr Grella can treat a large area during this time. Venous stasis UlcersLong standing untreated venous reflux disease leads to a debilitating condition known as venous stasis ulceration. The ulcers are usually located on the inside of the ankle; they often weep and are difficult to heal. Dr Kachmar is an expert in wound care located in our Bayville office is able to heal most of these wounds. The process involves first treating the reflux with vein ablation followed by meticulous wound management. |
